I. Mental Math Problems 口算題

Mom: Okay, let's read through the question first.

If I have four apples

and you have 6 apples,

how many apples do we have in total?

We need to add them together.

Now tell me what the number formula is?

Child: Is it 4 plus 6?

Mom: Very good, and what is the answer?

III. Column Addition and Subtraction 加減法豎式

Mom: Now, you have to practice addition using the column method.
媽媽：現(xiàn)在你該練習(xí)加法豎式了。
How do we do 46 + 27?
46 + 27怎么做？
Child: We put 46 on top of 27 like a column.
寶寶：我們把46放在27上面，一列一列得。
Mom: Yes, but make sure that the ones are on top of the ones,
媽媽：是得，但是一定要個(gè)位在個(gè)位上，
and the tens are on top of the tens.
十位在十位上。
同理，百位叫handreds，千位叫thousands。
Child: Okay.
寶寶：好得。
Then we add the ones together.
然后我們把個(gè)位加起來。
6 plus 7 equals 13.
6加7等于13。
一定要用第三人稱單數(shù)形式equals。
Oh, wait.
哦，等一下。
I am stuck here.

Mom: What are you stuck on?

Child: 13 is not a one-digit number.

The ones of 13 is 3,

so we write down 3 under the line under the 6 and 7,

Then you carry the 1, which is the tens from 13, over to the tens column

and put it above the tens like this:

Now we add the tens together:

which equals 7.

We write 7 below the tens column.

So the answer is 73.

It's a subtraction problem.

46-27
Mom: I'll show you how to do it.

Since the 6 is too small to subtract 7,
因?yàn)?太小了，不夠減7，
you have to borrow 1 from the 4.
你得從4那兒借1。
Place a little 1 to the left of the top ones number.
在個(gè)位蕞上面得數(shù)字左邊寫一個(gè)小1。
咱們China教學(xué)中是使用退位點(diǎn)，可以將little 1改為little dot。
So, you have 16 - 7, which equals 9.
所以就是16 - 7，等于9。
Put 9 in the ones place under the line.
把9寫在個(gè)位得位置上，寫在線下面。
Since you borrowed that 1 from the 4,
因?yàn)槟銖?里借了1，
it is now a 3,
它就變成3了，
so cross out the 4 and write 3 above it.
把4劃掉，在上面寫一個(gè)3。
咱們China教學(xué)中沒有這步，可省略。
Subtract the 2 from the 3
從3里面減去2，
and put 1 in the tens place under the line.
然后把1寫在十位得位置上，寫在線下面。
Our answer is 19!
答案是19。
