Making a Card for Teachers' Day 做教師節賀卡
Child: Tomorrow is Teachers' Day, Mom!
寶寶：明天是教師節，媽媽！
教師節的英文寫法有很多，我們選用了聯合國教科文組織（UNESCO）的寫法Teachers' Day，UNESCO世界教師節的日期為10月5日。
I need to make a card for Ms. Wang.
我要給王老師做張賀卡。
I already have some ideas about what I want to do!
我已經有一些做什么的想法了！
I will write a message on the front and the inside of the card
我要在卡片的封面上和里面寫一些話，
and use some crayons to draw a picture of the teacher and my class.
用蠟筆畫一幅老師和我們班的畫。
What else should I draw?
我還應該畫點什么呢？
Mom: Well, I think it would be nice to draw flowers.
媽媽：嗯，我覺得可以畫點花。
Child: Why flowers?
寶寶：為什么是花呢？
Mom: Flowers are the best gift on Teachers' Day.
媽媽：花是教師節最好的禮物。
They correspond with a metaphor about teachers.
這和一個關于老師的比喻有關。
Child: What does metaphor mean?
寶寶：比喻是什么意思？
Mom: A metaphor is something that symbolizes something else.
媽媽：比喻就是某些東西象征其他東西。
In this case, students must be nourished and cared for
這里的比喻是，學生需要被養育和照顧，
to reach their potential, like flowers.
才能激發出潛能，像花一樣。
Teachers provide the care that students need, like gardeners.
教師提供學生需要的照顧，像園丁一樣。
Child: OK, I'll draw some flowers then.
寶寶：好的，那我畫一些花。
Oh! Can I use glitter for the flowers?
哦！我能用閃粉做花嗎？
Mom: Yes, as long as we are careful not to spill it everywhere.
媽媽：可以的，只要咱們小心點，不要灑得到處都是。
Here is some construction paper in lots of different colors to choose from.
這里有各種不同顏色的卡紙供你選擇。
Which color do you want?
你想要哪個顏色的？
Child: Hmmm… I think her favorite color is purple,
寶寶：嗯……我覺得她最喜歡的顏色是紫色，
so, I'll pick purple.
那，我選紫色吧。
Mom: Here are some crayons, markers, glue, and glitter.
媽媽：給你蠟筆、水彩筆、膠水和閃粉。
First, we'll need to use the glue to draw out the things we want in glitter.
首先，咱們需要用膠水畫出想撒閃粉的圖案。
So, make some flowers, like this.
那，畫一些花，像這樣。
Now gently shake the color of glitter you want onto the glue.
現在輕輕抖動你想要的顏色的閃粉到膠水上。
? Child finishes drawing and applying glitter 寶寶畫完畫、撒完閃粉
Child: The picture is done.
寶寶：畫好了。
Mom: Cool, let's write the message.
媽媽：太好了，咱們寫話吧。
What do you want to put on the front?

Child: How about "Happy Teachers' Day"?
寶寶：“教師節快樂”怎么樣？
Mom: Good plan.
媽媽：好主意。
Let's fold the paper hamburger-style first.
咱們先把這張紙沿短邊對折。
? Child writes messages on the cover 寶寶寫封面上的話
Mom: Good, now you can go ahead and do the inside.
媽媽：好的，現在你可以寫里面的了。
? Child finishes 孩子寫完了
Mom: Do you mind if I read it?
媽媽：我能念念嗎？
Child: Go ahead.
寶寶：念吧。
Mom: Dear Ms. Wang,
媽媽：親愛的王老師，
Thank you for being my teacher.
謝謝你做我的老師。
You are so nice
你是那么的好，
and I learn lots in your class every day.
我每天都能在你的班里學到很多東西。
Wishing you a wonderful schoolyear
祝你這個學年一切順利，
and many good students!
有很多好學生！

I'm sure she'll love it.

Child: I like how it sparkles.
寶寶：我喜歡它閃亮的樣子。
Mom: Put it on the table
媽媽：把它放在桌子上，
and we'll let it dry overnight.
咱們把它晾一個晚上。
Child: Hope it dries fast!
寶寶：希望它快點干！
